Mission Statement "Huxtable Farm endeavours to ensure as far as possible that our activities have minimal impact upon the environment. Where possible we attempt to use local produce, use environmentally friendly products, recycle waste, conserve energy and try to preserve wild habitats."

Support, use and promote local produce, food, drink & crafts

Buy local produce e.g.Langage clotted cream, Devon cheeses, May's sausages & meat, fresh fruit and vegetables from Simmons, Edds and South Molton market. Grow own fruit, vegetables & herbs. Make preserves and use food for free from the land e.g. Elderflowers, hazelnuts etc. Use & promote local crafts e.g. local pottery

Water & Energy conservation

Use energy efficient light bulbs. Lower temperatures & switch off lights in unoccupied rooms. Insulate loft spaces and have double glazed windows. Replace electrical appliances with eco-friendly A & B rated appliances. Reduce water usage by installing water saving devices in the cisterns, use a water butt for watering flowers, reduce the number of towels washed with an environmentally friendly notice in bathrooms for guests.

Promote and support local environmental projects

As a member of the Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) Have information on local environmental projects, guided walks, natures reserves etc.

Wildlife

Promote 'Huxtable Farm's Devon Wildlife Farm Trail' and have additional reference information on wildlife available for visitors. Encourage wildlife, flora & fauna on Huxtable Farm, through the management of the woodland, pond and bracken covered slope and erecting nesting boxes. Record birds/wild life sighted on the farm. Reduce waste by recycling everything possible

Glass, tins, aluminium, paper & plastics. Give cloths to charity shops. Compost kitchen & garden waste. Use refillable soap & bubble bath dispensers. Reuse margarine tubs as storage containers. Use scrap paper for note paper and reuse old envelops where suitable.

Purchasing

Use Ecofriendly cleaning products. Buy recycled paper where possible for headed notepaper, invoices, toilet rolls etc. Avoid purchasing products with unnecessary packaging. Bulk purchasing e.g. Miles tea bags, Tarka Spring water etc. Huxtable Farm minimises the use of the business vehicle as far as possible and combines trips with other purposes. In addition, home deliveries of products via local suppliers where available are arranged e.g. Edds greengrocers and Langage Farm.

Maximising Customer experience

Huxtable Farm is a non-smoking establishment. A supply of visitor information on attractions, places to visit, maps, circular walks and timetables are available for guests to borrow during their stay. Huxtable Farm offers secure parking for cyclists and is a recognised by VisitBritain as an establishment that particularly welcome walkers and / or cyclists by awarding it with the Walkers Welcome & Cyclists Welcome Awards. A discounted rate is offered for short and long breaks taken the low season. Huxtable Farm raises funds for the 'Devon Wildlife Trust' & 'Devon Air Ambulance' by organising events such a walks followed by a cream tea at various time of the year at the farm in addition to having a donation box in the dining room. Huxtable Farm caters for all diets including vegetarian and gluten free. Huxtable Farm welcomes any suggestions about how its environmental policy can be further improved.
